TopQ: How do I verify my email address?

For security reasons, you are required to verify your email address upon signup and each time you change your primary email address. A verification email will be sent to you. To verify your email address, click on the verification link in the email OR click on the link that takes you to a verification page where you can key in the secret code provided in the email.

For your convenience, you are given 15 grace logins so you will be able to login to your LifeLog 15 times prior to verification. Once you use up your grace logins, you will not be able to login to your LifeLog unless you verify your email address.

If you don't see the verification email in your inbox, try checking your spam/junk mail folder – the email may have been filtered from your inbox. To avoid having your LifeLogger notifications end up as spam/junk in the future, please put us on your safe list.

If you've lost the verification email/did not receive it, go to http://lifelogger.com/verify to get a new secret verification code sent to you.

TopQ: What are stamps?

Stamps are neat little tokens that allow you to log media files (photos, videos, and audio files) on LifeLogger. Each stamp allows for 1 entry to be logged. You are given a default amount of 150 stamps at the beginning of each month, allowing you to post up to 150 entries per month. Your total number of stamps will decrease according to the amount of entries you log. Remaining stamps cannot be accumulated or carried on to the following month.

* Note on file sizes: Media files logged via web uploads must not exceed 100MB per file. When logging via mobile blogging, do check that each email does not exceed 10MB.

TopQ: Which file formats does LifeLogger support?

LifeLogger supports these file formats:

Photos:
  • JPG (This is a common format for photos shot with a digital camera)
  • TIFF
  • GIF
  • PNG
  • BMP
Videos:
  • 3GPP (This is a common format for videos shot with a cameraphone)
  • MPEG
  • AVI
  • WMV
  • MOV
  • MP4
Audio:
  • AMR (This is a common format for audio clips recorded on a mobile phone)
  • WAV
  • MP3
  • WMA

Files in any other formats just won't fly.

TopQ: What's the file size limit for uploads on LifeLogger?

The size limit for uploads on LifeLogger is 100MB per file. Files larger than 100MB will not make it to your LifeLog, so do check your file size before uploading to avoid disappointment, confusion, and general unhappiness.

TopQ: What's my mobile blogging address?

Your mobile blogging address follows this format:

username.blogging-key@enjoy.lifelogger.com

For example, if your username is bob, your default address would look something like this:

bob.26738273@enjoy.lifelogger.com

Your mobile blogging address can be found in My Account > Mobile Blogging. Send entries to this address when you're logging entries from your mobile phone or via email.

TopQ: What's my blogging key?

Your blogging key is the bit in your mobile blogging address that comes after your username and before the '@'. For example, if your mobile blogging address is bob.76467352@enjoy.lifelogger.com, then your blogging key is 76467352.

Your blogging key is meant to be kept secret to prevent evil imposters from logging entries on your LifeLog without your permission. It is also required for blogging via the Nokia Lifeblog.

Your default blogging key is system-generated and can be changed anytime you wish. It should contain 1-8 characters, consisting of letters and/or numbers. To change your blogging key, go to My Account > Mobile Blogging.

TopQ: What's the file size limit for entries logged via mobile blogging?

Because mobile blogging involves email/MMS, the acceptable file size is much smaller compared to that of web uploads. The total file size limit for entries logged via mobile blogging is 10MB. Each individual file attached must not exceed 5MB

TopQ: How do I set my profile photo?

To set your profile photo, start by logging a photo (OR, you can opt to use a previously logged photo. All photos on your entries list can be set as your profile photo). Once the photo you wish to use is safely in your entries list, click on the entry title to view it as an individual entry. You will then see a sidebar on the right of the page with a list of Actions. Click on Set as profile photo and confirm. And voila! You'll have yourself a profile photo. Change your profile photo anytime by repeating these steps on another photo of your choice.

TopQ: What are Magic Words?

Magic words are short commands that make mobile blogging work harder and better for you. They can be used to customize the way your entries are organized when you log them via email or via MMS from your mobile phone. Key in magic words anywhere in the body of your email. When you log entries from your mobile phone, key in Magic Words in the subject line of your MMS. There are 5 main magic words, and a neat trick you can pull on your mobile blogging address to automatically set privacy settings for the entries you are sending.

TopQ: I can't seem to view the videos and slideshows or hear any of the audio on LifeLogger. Is there something wrong with me?

No, we're sure there's absolutely nothing wrong with you. This is probably happening because you haven't downloaded Flash Player 8. You need Flash Player 8 in order to view and hear videos, slideshows and audio on LifeLogger. Download the player for free now at www.macromedia.com

If you've already downloaded Flash Player 8 and still can't see or hear anything, call for rescue at help@lifelogger.com

TopQ: How do I report pesky bugs?

LifeLogger's new beta is still squeaky at the joints, so you may encounter some pesky little bugs once in a while. When this happens, quietly mutter "Bah humbug!" under your breath, then send us a bug report at help@lifelogger.com and we'll be happy to pounce on it. Here's what we need to know:

  1. Which browser were you using when you encountered the bug? Do note the browser version as well, for instance, "FireFox 1.5.0.3".
  2. A description of the events surrounding the bug - what happened/didn't happen, what were you trying to log, which links did you click?
  3. If something looks odd or out of place, please attach a screenshot of the incriminating evidence. Here's how you can get those screenshots:
    For Windows:
    • Press Alt + Print screen. This should grab the screenshot.
    • Open Paint, then save it and attach it to your email.
    For MAC:
    • Use these nifty shortcut keys: Shift+Command+3 for full screenshots, or Shift+Command+4 to select and crop your screenshot. Your screenshots will be automatically saved to your desktop.
    • Attach the screenshot to your email.
  4. That's all! Reporting bugs help us help you, so here's a big thank you in advance! There's nothing quite as rewarding as the 'you spot, we squash' relationship.

TopQ: How do I tag my entries?

Tags are keywords that serve to describe entries that you log. You can tag photos, videos, and audio to make them easier to sort, find and share in the future. For instance, say you tag an entry 'yellow'. When you're looking for an entry that features something yellow in the future, just click on that tag and you'll get all entries that have been tagged the same way.

There are a bunch of ways to tag your entries on LifeLogger. Click here to find out how!

TopQ: I'd like to switch from my current blogging platform to LifeLogger. Do you have import tools that can make moving all my posts over to LifeLogger feel less like a tedious hair-pulling process?

We love that you're planning to move your stuff over, and my, do we have loads of room for you. We totally understand the constipated feeling of not being able to move your posts over in a painless manner, so we're currently working on an import tool that will eliminate your dread of moving. You won't have to keep those fingers crossed for long!

TopQ: How do I log entries from my mobile phone?

Here's a quick step by step:

  1. Create a new MMS
  2. Insert your media and descriptions
  3. Send the MMS to your mobile blogging address

Important: Any additional characters or words in the "To:" field will disrupt the MMS submission, so please be nice and enter nothing other than your mobile blogging address in that field.

Tip: Make mobile blogging work harder for you with Magic Words.

And that's how it's done! Please allow approximately 15 minutes for your entry to appear on your upload monitor.

TopQ: What are live comments?

Live comments are comments that appear in realtime. If you turn on live comments, you'll be able to see comments for the entry that you're viewing magically appear as others are logging them. To turn on live comments, click on the link by the Comment section (where you're viewing an entry) that says 'Live comments off'.

TopQ: How do I set audio accompaniment for my slideshows? I love those all-entertaining slideshows, and I want one too.

It's so easy, you wouldn't believe it. Just add an audio track into an album of photos that you would like to be displayed as a slideshow, and poof! The audio track will play automatically when you launch your slideshow. Do note that even if you have more than one audio track in your album, only the first track on the list will be played.

TopQ: How do I set my Shoutbox message?

There are two ways to set your Shoutbox message - the easy way, and the super easy way.

The easy way:

  • Go to Look & Feel > Basics and key in your Shoutbox message in the indicated text field, then save your changes.

The super easy way:

TopQ: How do I set my audio and video entries to play automatically?

This is easier than it appears. There's really no need for extensive knowledge of geeky languages or creepy little elves. First of all, you'll have to get the code block for the video/audio entry and paste it into the text area of your blogging editor while in HTML/TEXT mode. Then, all you need to do is find and delete the little string of code that says "&noAuto=1", and voila, your video and audio will play automatically when you and your friends hit the page.

TopQ: What are Smart Albums and just how smart are they?

Smart Albums are albums that unquestioningly listen to you. Right now, you can tell your Smart Albums to collect entries based on tags. We call these tags Smart Album Tags. With Smart Album Tags, all entries that share any of the specified tags will automatically be organized into a related album. This way, you can add entries into albums as you are tagging them.

To specify your Smart Album Tags, go to Albums > Create. Click on 'Make this a Smart Album' and enter your tags in the field provided. To add entries to this Smart Album, tag your entries according to the Smart Album Tag you specified. All existing entries already tagged with any of the Smart Album Tags you specified will automatically be added to the album.

A Smart Album basically pulls all entries that share a similar tag and places them into an album. To remove an entry from a Smart Album, just remove the Smart Album Tag from that entry. (Note: You will not find an option to remove entries from a Smart Album in your Entries List/View Album dropdown menu. That option exists for standard albums only)

Stay tuned for our ongoing developments in album intelligence!

Grace logins are logins that are allowed before your email address is verified. For your convenience, you are given 15 grace logins upon signup or change of email address, allowing you to login to your LifeLog 15 times without having to verify your email address.

Once you use up all your grace logins, you will not be able to login to your LifeLog unless you verify your email address. Just so you won't forget, you'll see a little reminder displayed upon login to help you keep track of your grace logins.

You will still be able to log entries on your LifeLog via email and mobile blogging after your grace logins run out, and before verification.

If you wish to make your entries private by default, just go to My Account >> Preferences and change your Default share settings. Click on the dropdown menu and select Private. Your entries will now all automatically become private entries. (Remember, save your changes once you're done!)

However, should you only wish to mark selected entries as private, here's what you do when you upload your media:

  2. Scroll downwards and click on Enter Batch Details
  3. To make your entry private, go to Share Settings and click on the drop-down menu
  4. Select Private
  5. Click on the UPLOAD button and you're done!

Voila! Your entries will be visible to you when you're logged in to LifeLogger, but they would not appear for public view.

TopQ: Dude, where's my Garage?

Hey, who needs a Garage when you can have a one-stop LifeLog that allows you to do everything in a few easy clicks? Your brand new LifeLog has a built-in Garage that will make your old Garage whimper and cry itself to sleep. And we did all this because we love you. We do.

TopQ: Hey, what happened to the Hive? How am I supposed to browse around easily now?

The Hive has been retired because you can now browse LifeLogger and featured users from the comfort of your own LifeLog. There are hotspots all over your LifeLog to help make your browsing experience quick, easy, and indulgent - for instance, check out the Hot stuff and Featured Tags sections on your LifeLog's Home view. Sweet, huh? Life is tough enough. LifeLogging should be easy.

TopQ: Why are there no cool nifty terms anymore? Whyyy???

We've retired some terms like Wisecracks, Blinks, and Thinks because we wanted to make your LifeLogging experience smoother, easier, and clearer. We figured if you have to spend two seconds wondering what in the world a Blink is, then it just ain't clear enough. (Not that we didn't spend hours thinking up those lovely terms, though.) A moment of silence was observed for this heroic effort towards a greater good.

TopQ: Are you guys the most fickle people on earth or what?

Well, deciding on where to go for lunch really is a daily challenge for us. But that aside, all the changes we make on LifeLogger are serious decisions aimed to make things fitter, happier, and more productive because (c'mon, say it with us now) we love you.

TopQ: Why doesn't my album have a cover photo? (#2698)

Some albums may not have a cover photo. The cover photo is automatically chosen based on the first Public photo entry in an album. The sequence of entries in an album is determined by the order as to which they were added to the album, or if an ordering sequence (e.g. A-Z, by date taken, etc) was applied on an album.

This issue occurs when there aren't any Public photos in an album.

We're working on a fix – stay tuned!

TopQ: Why can't I view some WMV videos that were just uploaded? (#2676 – FIXED)

FIXED: We've added a bunch of new codecs to handle WMV/WMA files. In addition, we have converted all video/audio files with error code 11323. If you're still facing problems with WMV/WMA, please drop us an email at help@lifelogger.com

More about this known issue

TopQ: Why can't I send HTML-formatted entries via email? (#2441 – FIXED)

FIXED: You should now be able to send HTML-formatted emails. If you're still facing similar problems, please drop us an email at help@lifelogger.com

More about this known issue

TopQ: My photos are not updated immediately after using rotate / flip! (#2801)

Upon saving your transformation sequence (e.g. rotate), only the sample photo is updated. The vlarge (very large) photo on the entry page does not update itself immediately. You would have to press the trusty Refresh button to make this work for now.

Rest assured, as the photo and all its available sizes will be transformed completely. We're working on some Web 2.0 goodness for this one – hang in there folks!

TopQ: The Flash Uploader doesn't work when I'm on my Mac. I keep encountering error 404. Do something! (#2802)

Yes, we will. We know Mac users need love too, so this problem will be fixed ASAP. In the meantime, do upload files via web uploads, email, and mobile blogging.

TopQ: I can't get Nokia Lifeblog to work from my phone! (#2803 – FIXED)

FIXED: We now support Lifeblog postings from mobile phones. In addition, we're also compatible with older versions of Lifeblog (prior to 2.0). If you're still facing problems with Lifeblog postings from your mobile phone, please drop us an email at help@lifelogger.com

More about this known issue

TopQ: Why does LifeLogger look wonky on Safari?

LifeLogger is not fully supported on Safari, so you'll find that your LifeLogging experience on Safari can be a tossed salad of straying images and dead/missing links. Here are two specific known issues we've encountered on Safari:

  • The 'Close' button for our guides and other message boxes (like error messages) doesn't work. (#2920)
  • The menu bar on the left side of your LifeLog appears repetitively (you'll see the redundant ones when you scroll down). So if you're seeing multiples, it's not because of that drink you had over lunch. (#2917)

To enjoy LifeLogger at its best on your Mac, use Firefox instead! If you don't have Firefox yet, download it for free at http://www.mozilla.org/download.html.

TopQ: Some of my video entries do not have playback control. Why? (#2834)

You'll find that some videos logged before this upgrade may not feature playback control when viewed on your LifeLog. We are currently working on a fix. You will regain control soon!

TopQ: I can't seem to save an album as a zip file successfully. The file is always corrupted upon completion. What's up? (#2825)

Hmm yes, very annoying, this problem is. We're currently trying to unravel the mysterious source of this save as zip dilemma. In the meantime, we've disabled the save as zip option for visitors, meaning you won't be able to save other users' albums. You will only be able to save your own albums as a zip file. For a smoother zipping experience, try keeping the load light – save a maximum of 15 photos at a go.

TopQ: My tags that contain apostrophes are misbehaving. They return no results when I click on them. Why why why? (#2784- FIXED)

This is because our system has a tendency to get confused by apostrophes in certain situations. We've had a long talk with it to clear the fog, so this should not occur anymore. However, if it does happen to you, please send an email to help@lifelogger.com and we'll hop to it.

TopQ: I was using the XP Wizard the other day, and all of a sudden, it disappeared from my screen. Is this a bug, or some sort of a magic trick? (#2601)

Unfortunately, it's not a magic trick. When the Windows XP Web Publishing Wizard reaches its limit, it has a tendency to close automatically. The publishing limit appears to be 63 files, but this limit may differ between different machines. To avoid the disappearing act, try to keep to this limit.

TopQ: I used the ##blog Magic Word while mobile blogging, but there was no magic. The descriptions did not match my photos. What's up with that? (#2993 – FIXED)

FIXED: Mobile blogging via MMS has been fixed. The MMS body text will now be used as the entry's description. For MMS postings with more than one slide, please note that all the media entries will share the same description (i.e. the first body text we come across). If you're still facing problems with mobile blogging via MMS, please drop us an email at help@lifelogger.com

More about this known issue

TopQ: Know anything about hiccups while browsing on Internet Explorer? (#3380)

Yes we do. One known issue is that there tends to be an irregularity (empty spaces in odd places) in the appearance of your blog at times. (Click on the link below to view the attached screenshot). This is linked to the formatting of your blog entry in the WYSIWYG editor, specifically when italics are present. We are currently dissecting and analysing this matter and will come up with a remedy soon. To read more about this problem concerning italics and Internet Explorer, go to http://www.positioniseverything.net/explorer/italicbug-ie.html. Thanks for holding your horses!

Click here to see the screenshot >>

TopQ: I noticed some of my files with filenames that contain non-ASCII characters don't get uploaded successfully. Why is that? (#3195)

That happens because LifeLogger's web uploader does not recognize filenames that contain non-ASCII characters (such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, etc). To work around this problem, please use one of the multilingual upload tools that we support like the Flash Uploader and Windows XP Wizard, or send your entries in via email. That way, your entries won't be lost in translation.

If you prefer to continue using our web uploader, just rename your files using ASCII characters and you'll have no problem getting them across.

TopQ: I notice some URLs can't be bookmarked. The URLs simply can't be logged in full as a bookmark. What's wrong? (#3542)

This anomaly happens when you attempt to log URLs that contain front slashes on the value side of a name value pair. Blablablablabla? Basically, that means if there are front slashes (/) appearing after a question mark (?) in the URL, you won't be able to log the URL in full. Meaning, if the URL looks something like this:

http://www.example.com/story.php?name=/will/not/work

You won't be able to bookmark it.

We're looking into this issue at the moment. Keep those fingers crossed.

TopQ: Oh no, I've forgotten my password. How now, brown cow?

Not to worry, LifeLogger caters for your absolutely human tendency to forget important stuff! Just head over to the Reset Password page, key in your username and email address, and your brand new password will be on its way to your inbox.

(Unfortunately, we can't help you when you forget stuff like your wedding anniversary. You're on your own with that one, buddy).

TopQ: My username and password is correct, but I still can't login. Why is this happening to me?

This hiccup is a common side effect of the massive upgrade we've just implemented, and is easily overcome – Just clear your cookies and you should be good to go. If you're still stuck, email us at help@lifelogger.com and we'll come to your rescue.

TopQ: I can't verify my email address because I did not receive a verification email/secret code. Can you please make this problem go away?

Yes, we can. We can conquer this together! Help us help you:

  1. Head over to the verification page: http://lifelogger.com/verify
  2. Since you don't have a secret code, enter your username, password, and email address in the section called Get a new secret code.

Done? A verification email containing your secret code will be sent to the email address you entered. If you still do not receive it, tell us about it at help@lifelogger.com.

TopQ: I uploaded some entries a while ago, but they did not appear in my LifeLog. What am I to do?

Yeah, we hate when that happens too. If your entries are missing in action, it helps to carry out a quick investigation on your Upload Monitor.

All entries that you log (via any method, including mobile blogging) can be tracked on your Upload Monitor. Your Upload Monitor is a great way to tell if LifeLogger has actually received your entries and are processing them. If you log many entries at once, the files are usually queued for processing. Larger files take longer to process, and in turn take longer to appear on your Entries list. If your files are stuck or running into errors, it will be indicated there. If your Upload monitor points out a problem, or if you don't see your file progress listed there 30 minutes after logging, email us with the details at help@lifelogger.com. Due to the unpredictable volatility of email and MMS services, entries logged via mobile blogging risk being lost in the void now and then.

Another important point to look into when you experience hiccups is your file size. If your entries exceed the maximum file size (that's 100MB per file for uploads and 10MB per email/MMS for mobile blogging) they definitely won't make the journey to your LifeLog. TopQ: I downloaded an audio track from my friend's LifeLog recently, but the track is incomplete. Why is that? The track was complete and played fine on my friend's LifeLog.

Oh that's a bummer! This hiccup is usually caused by an interruption in the connection while the download is under way. Your ISP may have timed-out in the middle of the download, thus disrupting the process. Give it another shot! If this unhappy download issue keeps recurring, do email us at help@lifelogger.com and we'll investigate further.

TopQ: I created some default albums the other day and they went nuts – I ended up with more albums than expected and a bunch of replicated entries. What's with the madness?

This madness occurs when default album names that you create contain commas. Commas cause a very specific reaction in album creation – It's very important to remember that when it comes to album names, commas act as separators, and not punctuations. For example, if you create an album called "San Francisco, California" you will end up with two albums – one called "San Francisco" and a second one called "California". If both are set as default albums, your incoming entries will automatically be replicated and placed in both albums. So the moral of the story is, never ever enter commas as part of an album's name. Only use commas to separate names of different albums.

TopQ: Hey, why can't I download the original version of a video/audio that I like?

We're terribly sorry about that! LifeLogger is going through a growth spurt at the moment, which means our servers have been worked to the bone lately. To keep them spiffy for you, our servers are currently being upgraded and primed.

The original videos and audio will not be accessible for the time being. This is to keep our server load a little lighter while improvements are kicking in. You will still be able to download the video/audio in FLV (Flash video) format.

The feature will be up and running again once our servers are done with their superhero makeovers. We'll keep you posted!
